Special Firesides

YOUNT SEMINAR AND YOUNT FIRESIDES

The training within the Yount Program has been expanded to meet the needs of more members and better address topics that aid educational attainment. Each topic guide or seminar section can be printed separately so they can be used in a fireside format to meet the needs of special groups of members. This approach will allow printing of portions of the Yount Seminar workbook as they are needed. Members may be asked to print and bring copies. The segmented approach will allow more flexibility in delivery and scheduling.

The added material in item lV may require the seminar to be taught in three parts instead of two as in the past. In that case items I and II (including the first part of the Career Workshop) would be taught as part one. Part two would include items III and IV.  Part three would include success in school including the use of networking, tracking and mentoring.

The recommended sequence for those needing the entire Yount Seminar is shown below. Educational status should be used to determine the sections needed. The section on success in school makes a good fireside for current college students. An asterisk* identifies the content that lends itself to be taught in a single-session fireside. New material for 2010 is italized. Sometimes special sections can be taught together. For example, a fireside of parents who bring their children could include the section on a free college education along with the section on how to learn faster and remember it longer.  A chart is provided to indicate the recommended sections based upon one’s educational status.

*Special parent fireside: A free college education if parents start early enough

*Older adult fireside: Engaging in informal education
