Educational Advancement Among Church Members

Educational advancement has both a spiritual and a temporal dimension. It needs support from both.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints:
1.Has a heritage of educational advancement

2.Needs an educated membership to fulfill its destiny

3.Has a problem: Its members no longer stand apart in educational attainment

If we have a motto, it is this:The glory of God is intelligence. – Gordon B. Hinckley, ‘Teachings’ p. 127
. . . a motto and a mandate
” The Lord has mandated that this people get all the education they can.” Gordon B. Hinckley, ‘Teachings’, p. 721-2

Educational advancement is a fundamental doctrine of the Church applicable to all members

See Yountprogram.org for numerous quotes by modern prophets

“Education becomes the key of opportunity for everyone in this life. It may involve sacrifice, it may involve unusual effort, but with the help of heaven, it can be had.”   Gordon B. Hinckley

“Today the world is competitive, more than its ever been. I believe men and women need to get a type of education which will enable them to meet the exigencies of life … Men and women need to be prepared for a vastly broader scope than we have ever had before.”   Thomas S. Monson, 2008

The Need for More Education
It is impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance. D&C 131:6
