Yount Mini Grants

Mini grants do not have to be repaid. The Yount Mini Grant opportunity is one of the services offered by the Yount Program. The applicant may not utilize both a mini grant and a Yount loan at the same time. They have two different purposes.
In the locations and populations where the Yount Program is operating, worthy LDS Church members, age 18-40, may apply for a mini grant of up to $500 dollars. The money is to be used for one of the following purposes.
Schooling that will prepare the person for success in college
Schooling that will prepare the person for formal technical training
Short-term job upgrade training
Tools for a government-sponsored program that requires no tuition
Examples:

  • Prepare for a GED or state high school equivalency examination
  • Improving basic skills (Language, Reading, Math, Science, etc.)
  • Paying for tools as part of  a state-approved apprenticeship or on-the-job training program

Examples of service providers:

  • Special schools that target a person’s area of need
  • State-sponsored or federally-sponsored schools that offer the needed training
  • Online courses that match the applicant’s educational preparation needs

Grant money is paid directly to authorized service providers. There may be multiple providers. Grant recipients will be reimbursed for required books and supplies (as part of the grant amount requested). Reimbursement will be made based upon receipts forwarded to Yount Headquarters.
Eligibility requirements:

  • Be eligible by location or population for whom the Yount Program is offered
  • Fit the grant purposes as outlined above
  • Have been briefed on the Yount Program (attend a briefing fireside if available) and have taken the first part of the Career Workshop from an LDS ERS Center or Yount trainer
  • Have a desire to contribute in the future so that others will have a mini grant opportunity
  • Make application (can be filled out and sent in electronically by email) on the website. Print a copy of the completed application and obtain bishop’s signature of worthiness and financial need. The bishop is to forward the paper copy of the application to Yount Headquarters where it will be compared to the electronic copy and filed for future reference.
  • Be a worthy member of the LDS Church and in need of this assistance

About Worthiness
Worthiness and need are determined by the bishop with one exception. A missionary service obligation exists for men 19 to 25 unless there are extenuating circumstances such as marriage or handicapping conditions that prevent missionary service.
Grant applicants are encouraged to attend the following workshops as part of their preparation for further schooling. These may be a local requirement for a mini grant.

        • The Yount Seminar (See details on this website.)
        • The Career Workshop (Offered by LDS Employment Resource Service Centers.)
